What to Expect
What to Expect from Counselling with Me
Starting counselling can feel daunting, and it’s normal to have lots of questions about what therapy might involve. My aim is to provide a safe, welcoming space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings at your own pace, whether you’re dealing with anxiety, depression, complex mental health challenges, or navigating your identity as an LGBTQIA+ person.
I offer counselling in Folkestone (CT20), across Kent, and online for clients across the UK. Sessions can be in-person or via secure video call, depending on what feels most accessible and comfortable for you.
Our First Session
In the first session, we’ll spend time getting to know each other and exploring what brought you to counselling. This isn’t about fixing anything immediately; it’s about creating a space where you feel understood and safe. We’ll discuss:
Your reasons for seeking support
Any questions or concerns about therapy
How you’d like our sessions to work, including frequency, length, and what feels most comfortable for you
I offer a free 20-minute introductory call if you’d like to ask questions before booking your first session. This is an opportunity to see whether my approach feels like a good fit for you.
How I Work
I am an integrative psychotherapist, which means I draw on a variety of counselling approaches to create a way of working that is personalised to you and responsive to your needs. Whether you come to counselling in Folkestone, across Kent, or online, my focus is always on supporting you in a way that feels safe, consistent, and collaborative.
At the heart of my work is the therapeutic relationship. We may explore how patterns in your other relationships, such as with family, friends, or partners show up in the therapy room. I also draw on attachment-based and psychodynamic approaches, which can help us understand how your past experiences influence your present. I draw from nternal Family Systems (IFS)to explore different “parts” of you that may show up in inner conflicts, emotional busyness, or dysregulation.
I also integrate DBT skills and mindfulness techniques. These approaches provide practical tools to help you manage intense emotions, stay grounded, and notice thoughts and feelings without judgment. Together, these methods are tailored to your needs, helping you feel more stable, self-aware, and understood.
My approach is always collaborative. I work alongside you, offering compassionate support and gentle challenge where helpful, in a warm and non-judgemental space. Therapy is about uncovering what matters to you, at your own pace, and creating a space where you can feel understood, supported, and empowered.
Confidentiality & Professional Practice
All sessions are confidential and conducted in line with BACP ethical guidelines. I maintain professional boundaries while offering a supportive, affirming presence. Where appropriate, I can work collaboratively with other services, but your therapy space remains yours.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many counselling sessions will I need?
There isn’t a fixed number of sessions. Some people come for short-term support around a specific issue, while others choose longer-term therapy to explore deeper patterns or complex experiences. We can review how things are feeling as we go and decide together what feels right for you.
Is counselling confidential?
Yes. Everything you share in sessions is confidential and held in line with BACP ethical guidelines. The only exceptions relate to serious risk of harm, which we would always discuss openly if they ever arose. Creating a safe, private and respectful space is central to the work.
Do you work with complex mental health conditions?
Yes. I have experience supporting people living with anxiety, depression, personality disorders, Bipolar, C-PTSD, and those with a history of psychosis. If you are unsure whether counselling feels appropriate for you, you are welcome to get in touch and we can think about it together.
Do I need to identify as LGBTQIA+ to work with you?
No. While my practice is LGBTQIA+ centred and affirming, I work with people of all identities. My approach recognises how sexuality, gender identity, race, class and other social identities can shape emotional wellbeing, and I aim to offer a space where all aspects of you are welcome and respected.
What if I feel anxious about starting therapy?
Feeling nervous before your first session is very common. You don’t need to prepare anything or know exactly what to say. We will move at a pace that feels manageable for you, and you are always in control of what you choose to share.
Do you offer online counselling?
Yes. Alongside in-person counselling in Folkestone (CT20), I offer sessions via secure video call for clients across Kent and the UK. Some people appreciate the flexibility of online work, while others prefer being in the room — we can talk about what feels most comfortable for you.
How much will therapy cost?
Sessions are £60 for 50 minutes.
I understand that counselling can feel like a significant financial commitment, and for many people affordability is an important consideration. If you are interested in working together but have concerns about cost, you are very welcome to get in touch so we can have a conversation about it.
My aim is to make counselling as accessible and transparent as possible, and I’m happy to answer any questions before you decide whether to begin.
